"Do you really need to put all that stuff on your hair?" Nick asked, eyeing the bottles lined up next to the bathroom sink.
He had been a little worried when they had decided to move in together, afraid Greg would bring chaos into his perfectly honed domestic routine and turn his house into a complete mess. But Greg had turned out to be neater than Nick had thought, and while his house was definitely fuller and a little more cluttered, it wasn't the war-zone scenario he had originally envisioned.
With the exception of the bathroom. They had been living together for a few months, and Nick still wondered what some of those products were.
"This is a work of art," Greg replied, pointing at the bleached tips sticking out in every direction. "And as such, it requires meticulous maintenance."
He studied his reflection in the mirror and carefully tweaked a strand of hair into place. Nick thought it looked exactly the same as it had before, but apparently that finishing touch made all the difference, judging by Greg's satisfied expression and firm nod. Nick just shook his head.
"I like your natural hair."
Greg turned around and gave him a disbelieving look.
"My natural hair is a mess. I look like a wet dog."
"That's not true. I like how it frames your face when you don't do anything to it, all those little waves." He took a step forward and placed a hand on the back of Greg's neck, rubbing his fingertips lightly against the only section of Greg's head that hadn't been styled into submission. "And it's really soft. I love running my fingers through it."
Greg closed his eyes and sighed.
"I guess I could try a more natural style every now and then."
Nick smiled and leaned in for a kiss.
"Now hurry up, I don't think Grissom would be impressed with your 'work of art' speech if we are late for work."
