Summary: Rodrigo looks completely different when he plays the piano.
The following story is a mere work of F I C T I O N, meaning it is 100% made up. None of the situations described here ever happened, and even if they did, I have no way of knowing. This is not about spreading rumours or, worse, libel. The people portrayed in this story are real, but I am NOT claiming they did what I wrote. I use their "public personas" and build stories around them as if they were fictional characters.
Farin stops in the doorway and leans against the doorpost. Rodrigo is sitting at the piano, his back slightly hunched and his eyes closed. He looks completely different when he plays the piano. When they are on stage, he straps his bass over his shoulder and becomes The Rod, a hip-swinging, bass-licking stage animal. He never talks much during concerts, but he doesn't need words to set the audience on fire.
But here in the small studio room he doesn't need to wear his stage mask. His fingers slide over the keys as if he was caressing them, his expression changing along with the melody. Dolce. Crescendo. Maestoso. Farin can read his face as if it was sheet music.
Rodrigo hits a wrong note and stops. He slowly opens his eyes and stares down at his hands, his fingers hovering over the keys. Then, as if feeling watched, he turns to the door.
Farin steps away from the entrance. "Sorry, I didn't want to disturb you."
"You didn't. I didn't even know you were there."
"You looked quite involved," Farin sits down on the piano stool next to him. "Was that a new song you're working on?"
Rod shrugs. "No, just something that came into my mind, I'm not sure I can make something out of it."
"I liked it, it was very... evocative."
Rod shrugs again. Farin plays a few notes and then throws up his hands. "Piano is so not my instrument."
"Pity, you've got nice piano hands."
Farin raises an eyebrow at him. "I can do other interesting things with my hands."
Rod rolls his eyes. "You've got such a dirty mind."
Farin grins and leans in. "Yes, I do."
He places a hand on the back of Rod's neck and pulls him closer. The kiss feels like a physical version of the melody Rodrigo has just played. It starts slow and tender, then builds up into something fierce and deep, something that leaves them flushed and breathless when they part.
Farin runs his thumb along Rodrigo's jaw and slides his fingers down his neck. They're still looking into each other's eyes when Bela enters the room.
"Hey, you two lovebirds, wanna go eat something?"
"Sure," Farin replies and gets to his feet. "But we're not going to that place you chose last time, the food was awful." He walks to the door and turns to Rodrigo. "You coming too?"
"Yeah, I'll catch you up in a sec."
Rod stares down at the keyboard while Bela and Farin walk away, their voices trailing off into silence. When he can't hear them anymore, he shuts the lid and stands up. Only now he realises how hungry he is.
