Roses are red

Greg saw it as soon as he walked into the DNA lab. It was impossible to miss it: a single red rose, the crimson petals standing out sharply against the immaculate white furniture. He smiled and carefully picked it up, closing his eyes as he brought it to his nose and inhaled the delicate scent. He stayed like that for a few seconds, his smile growing bigger at the thought of who might have left it there.

"Greg. Any updates on those blood samples?" Grissom asked entering the lab, Nick and Sara in tow.

"Yeah, I just got the results. Two different DNAs: one is the victim's, the other belongs to an unknown male. I ran it through CODIS, but no luck," Greg replied, handing him a printout of the results.

"Thanks."

As he was turning to leave the room, Grissom's eyes fell on the red rose standing in a glass beaker in a corner of Greg's desk. He raised an eyebrow and looked back at Greg, not saying a word.

Curious as to what had caught Grissom's attention, Sara followed his line of sight, her eyes growing wide when she saw the flower.

"A red rose?" she asked, turning back to Greg.

He shrugged.

"Someone left it on my desk before I arrived today."

"No card?" Nick asked.

"Nope."

Sara grinned.

"Sanders got a secret admirer."

"I wish this person wasn't so shy and just came over and said hi. I don't bite. Much," he added with a little smirk.

"Just don't let it distract you. Warrick's coming back from his scene and, from what he told me, he'll need your full attention," Grissom commented.

"Yes, boss," Greg nodded, eyes following the three of them as they walked out.

Nick had just stepped into the restroom when he heard the door open. He turned around and saw Greg slip inside, the door clicking softly shut behind him. The DNA tech quickly checked every stall and, once he was sure they were alone, he walked up to Nick.

"Thank you for the rose," he said, wrapping his arms around Nick's shoulders. "It's beautiful."

"You're welcome," Nick replied, placing both hands on Greg's hips and pulling him closer.

"Now I have this mental image of you sneaking around the lab like a ninja, carrying a red rose and trying not to get caught. It's really cute."

"Yeah, it wasn't easy. But seeing you smile like that was worth all the trouble."

"You were spying on me? You creep."

"Not a creep. Just a romantic."

Greg smiled fondly at him and leaned in to kiss him.

"Wanna come back to my place after shift?" he asked when he pulled back. "So we can celebrate Valentine's Day properly," he added, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Yeah, I'd like that," Nick answered, hands wandering to the small of Greg's back and slightly lower.

Greg grinned and gave him a quick peck on the lips before stepping back.

"See you later, Romeo," he said, winking as he left the restroom.
