1 - SCARF
(Inspired by the December prompt list by creativepromptsforwriting on Tumblr.)
Greg yawned. He was still tired from all the overtime he had worked the previous week and hoped things would be quieter that night. He blindly reached for his scarf and wrapped it around his neck, thinking of how much he would've loved to stay in bed a little longer. He was about to put his jacket on, when he noticed something wasn't right. The scarf felt different. It smelled different. He looked down.
Oh. He had inadvertently grabbed Nick's scarf. He brought his hands to his neck, fully intending to take it off, but instead he lifted the garment to his face and buried his nose in it. He closed his eyes and smiled, enjoying the feeling of being surrounded by Nick's scent.
"Are you sniffing my scarf?"
Greg tensed up. He opened his eyes and saw Nick look at him with an amused expression.
"Maybe?"
"You can borrow it if you want." Nick walked up to him and gently caressed his cheek. "It looks good on you."
He leaned in to kiss him and Greg immediately wrapped his arms around him.
"Nooo, come back," Greg whined when Nick pulled away, and went for another kiss.
"You're gonna be late," Nick murmured against his lips, running a hand up and down his back.
"I don't wanna go to work. I wanna stay here and do this all day."
"I don't think Grissom would be happy about it," Nick answered with a smile and stepped back. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"Yeah, okay," Greg grumbled as he slipped his jacket on. "Enjoy your day off."
Nick stood in the window and watched Greg drive off. The neighborhood was already decked out with Christmas decorations, and he stayed there a little longer, admiring the bright lights illuminating the street. When he turned around, his eyes fell on Greg's scarf hanging next to the door. Mimicking Greg's earlier gesture, he reached out and raised it to his nose, smiling as he smelled his partner's scent still clinging to it. He let go of it and wondered if anyone at the lab would notice the swap. Much to his surprise, he realized he didn't really care if anyone did.
2 - CLASSIC
"Hot chocolate for you and hot chocolate with extra marshmallows for me," Greg announced as he walked into the living room and handed a steaming mug to Nick.
"I'll never understand how you can eat like that and be so lean," Nick commented. He blew on his drink and took a small sip.
"Awesome genes," Greg replied with a grin. He plopped down on the sofa next to him and scooped up a marshmallow with his teaspoon, shoving it into his mouth and letting out a satisfied moan.
Nick shook his head and placed his mug down on the coffee table.
"So, what are we watching tonight?" Greg asked. "And please don't say Die Hard."
"Why not? It's a classic Christmas movie," Nick pointed out as he reached for the remote.
"It's a Wonderful Life is a classic Christmas movie. Besides, we watched Die Hard a million times, you can quote whole scenes word for word. Even though I have to admit Alan Rickman is kinda hot."
"Fine, you choose then," Nick said, handing him the remote and leaning back against the sofa cushions.
Greg put down his mug and sat up straight. He zapped through a dozen channels, dodging cheesy Christmas commercials and dismissing film after film, until he finally stopped, a huge smile dawning on his face.
"Really?" Nick asked, unimpressed.
"It's a classic Christmas movie," Greg replied in a singsong voice, grinning at him.
Nick sighed.
"All right," he conceded, as the opening credits of The Muppet Christmas Carol rolled onto the screen.
3 - SILENT NIGHT
(Inspired by the Prompt #1136 by creativepromptsforwriting on Tumblr.)
"Please tell me again why I love you."
"Because you have great taste?"
"Siiilent night, hoooly night..."
"Will you please keep it down? You're gonna wake up the whole neighborhood," Nick urged in a hushed tone as he got out of the car. He wrapped an arm around Greg's waist to keep him upright and guided him towards the door.
"But it's Christmas Eve! You're supposed to sing Christmas carols."
"This isn't Christmas caroling: it's drunken caterwauling."
"Ouch. You're hurting my feelings," Greg replied, pressing a hand over his heart and making a big show of looking offended.
Nick rolled his eyes.
"I doubt you'll remember any of this when you wake up," he said, fumbling with the keys. "I haven't seen you this drunk in ages."
"It's Archie's fault: he shouldn't have brought schnapps to the party," Greg whined, pouting.
"It's not like he forced those shots down your throat."
"But they were sooo good."
Nick sighed and closed the door behind them.
"Please tell me again why I love you."
"Because you have great taste?" Greg replied, batting his eyelashes at him.
Nick shook his head, but couldn't hold back a smile.
"You're gonna have one hell of a hangover tonight," he pointed out as he walked him to the bedroom.
"But you'll be right there to make me feel better, right?" Greg said, wrapping his arms around him and snuggling closer.
"Yeah, I will," Nick answered, pressing his lips against Greg's temple. "I'm not going anywhere."
4 - BEST CHRISTMAS EVER
(Inspired by the Dialogue response prompt list by creativepromptsforwriting on Tumblr.)
"I want to kiss you."
"Then ask me nicely for a kiss."
"What are you two doing still here? I sent everyone home half an hour ago," Grissom asked, stopping in the corridor as he walked past the locker room.
"We just needed to finish something, we're on our way," Nick replied.
Grissom nodded.
"I'll see you tonight. Merry Christmas," he added before walking away.
"Merry Christmas, boss," Greg called out after him, closing his locker.
"Got any plans for today?" Nick asked as he put his jacket on.
"Apart from sleeping? Not really."
"Wanna grab something to eat before you hit the bed?"
"Why not? I'm not really tired anyway."
Much to their dismay, Frank's was closed, so they ended up in a small, hole-in-the wall place a few blocks away.
"The coffee's awful, but the cookies are pretty good," Greg commented, putting his mug down on the table. He reached for a gingerbread man and bit its tiny head off.
"Yeah, the bacon could be better too. But that's what you get when you look for a diner at 5:00 AM on Christmas Day. One of the many perks of our line of work."
"Working over Christmas isn't so bad in the end," Greg pointed out. "At least we're getting New Year's off. That's always a lot messier."
"Yeah, everyone likes playing around with fireworks, until they blow something up."
"Or someone," Greg added, shoving the final piece of his gingerbread man into his mouth.
Nick smiled at him.
"Ready to go home?"
Greg nodded and stood up. When they walked out of the diner, the sky was still pitch black, but the night was illuminated by dozens of bright Christmas lights. The parking lot was almost desert, and they made their way to their cars at a leisurely pace.
Suddenly, Nick stopped. Greg turned towards him.
"Did you forget something inside?"
Nick shook his head.
"No, I just... I was thinking of something I'd really like to get for Christmas, something I've wanted for a long time."
"Did you ask Santa for it?" Greg asked, smiling. "Or you could just wait for the after-Christmas sales."
"What I want isn't something you can find in a store," Nick replied, staring at Greg with a suddenly serious expression.
"Oh."
"Call me crazy, but I..." He took a step forward and stood right in front of him. "I want to kiss you."
Greg gaped at him. Surely Nick hadn't just said...
"You... You want..."
Nick said nothing. He was just standing there, looking straight into his eyes, and Greg decided he was not going to pass on such an opportunity, not after having to hide his crush on Nick for years.
"Then ask me nicely for a kiss," he replied, tilting his head slightly to the side and trying to look coy.
Nick smiled.
"May I have the honor of kissing you, Gregory?"
Greg chuckled.
"Not even my grandmother calls me Gregory. And I really don't want to think about my grandmother right now."
"I don't want to think about your grandmother either."
Greg licked his lips.
"Then don't."
Nick gently framed Greg's face with both hands and Greg leaned forward, placing his hands on Nick's waist as their lips met. As the kiss deepened, Greg tasted coffee and spices on Nick's tongue and he knew with sudden clarity that he wanted to find out what the rest of him tasted like.
When they eventually pulled apart, he let his hands wander down to Nick's ass.
"Come back to my place. I want to unwrap you like a Christmas present."
Nick almost burst out laughing.
"God, that was so cheesy."
"But did it work?"
Nick's expression softened.
"Yeah. God knows why, but it did."
Greg grinned.
"Come on, then, let's go!" He stole another quick kiss and grabbed Nick's wrist, pulling him towards their cars. "This is gonna be the best Christmas ever!"
